This small hewing hatchet features a mild steel body with a side laminated 1084 high carbon steel edge. It is similar in form to those used by coopers (for shaping barrel staves) and cobblers of old (for shaping shoe lasts). A unique feature of this style of hatchet is the canted eye, which puts the handle at a slight angle relative to the edge. this angle makes the hatchet more ergonomic and will keep the users knuckles out of the way if the hatchet is used on larger stock. the handle is hickory and features an attractive swell at its base.
