Classic Loggerhead or Tippling Iron

Classic Loggerhead or Tippling Iron

$95.00

Classic loggerhead. Based closely on 17th century originals this pared down version of my standard tippling iron.

This unusual piece of bar ware hails back to at least the 17th Century. The heavy end was placed into a hearth until red hot, then plunged into the beverage of your choice to warm it and caramelize any sugar present. It was especially popular for making the famous pirate cocktail known as a "Landlord May's Flip" consisting of dark beer, molasses and rum. This frothy concoction smacks of coffee, and roasted marshmallow. It's sure to warm the bones. This example features a sinuous handle for hanging your iron when not in use.

Made to order, but I do have one in stock.
