This Viking inspired hatchet features asymmetric wrapped eye construction with an inlaid high carbon -1075 steel- edge. The tomahawk head has been file finished for a rustic-refined look. The hand riven handle is straight grained ash which has been torch ebonized and finished with oil and wax. unlike American Trade axes and tomahawks the handle has been fit up through the bottom of the eye and wedged rather than fit down through the eye for a friction fit.
The handmade leather sheath has a rather unusual antler toggle. Unlike most antler spikes, which are pointed, this example looks remarkably like a molar lending to the viking nature of the piece.
the narrow profile of the head and the slender handle make this axe quite nimble, but it's length gives it plenty of wallop. A great choice for backpacking... or raiding on the north sea. 16" handle, head 6&3/4"long, 3" edge.
