This Handsome axe combines many of my favorite features of style and manufacture seen on 'modern' (20th Century) American axes. The axe head was made using the wrap-and-weld method. The bit (80CrV2 High Carbon steel) is center laminated, and the poll is jump-welded medium carbon (1045) steel. The axe head has a stout downward flaring blade, the prominent poll increases the weight and efficiency of the axe and because it is hardened and the cheeks around the eye are left think it can be used to drive wedges or pound in nails. The blade is slightly elliptical in cross section to aid in wood release, and there are prominent lugs that increase the strength of the connection to the handle. The 28" handle is premium American Hickory.
